Report: Jockey Valdivia drops appeal of California suspension
Jockey Jose Valdivia Jr. has dropped his appeal of a 10-day suspension for careless riding, the Daily Racing Form reported.
Agent Nick Hines told DRF that Valdivia will sit out the final six days of the Los Alamitos meeting, which ends Sept. 26, and the first four days of the Santa Anita meeting, which starts Oct. 1.
Valdivia will be allowed to ride in "designated" races, essentially stakes. Santa Anita will host eight stakes races on Oct. 1 and 2.
Valdivia's suspension resulted from an Aug. 27 spill at Del Mar that involved seven horses.
Valdivia, who was aboard Katie’s Paradise, was suspended “for crossing over without sufficient clearance entering the far turn and causing interference, resulting in an accident.” Diego Herrera, riding Sassy Chasey, was suspended for five days for “allowing his mount to remain in tight quarters entering the far turn and causing interference resulting in an accident.”
