Report: Jermaine Bridgmohan suffers serious injuries in spill
Jockey Jermaine Bridgmohan suffered broken bones in his back, broken ribs and a collapsed lung Wednesday night at Canterbury Park when he fell from his mount and was trampled by trailing horses.
According to the Star Tribune in Minnesota, Bridgmohan remained hospitalized on Thursday. The incident occurred shortly after the start of the fourth race when Bridgmohan, who was on the lead with his mount Mickey Dobbs, fell off the 4-year-old filly.
The outriders stopped the race after the spill, and it was declared a no contest. The Star Tribune reported that fellow jockeys rushed to the scene where Bridgmohan was being treated by medical personnel and bowed their heads in prayer as he was being loaded onto a back board. The jockeys then helped lift Bridgmohan into the waiting ambulance.
Bridgmohan, 33, has ridden 903 winners from 6,003 mounts since beginning his jockey career in 2006. He is the younger brother of jockey Shaun Bridgmohan, who was the champion apprentice jockey in 1998.
