Alexander Crispin, winner of the 2020 Eclipse Award as top apprentice jockey, has been suspended for 30 days and fined $1,000 for riding at the wrong weight.

The Daily Racing Form reported that Crispin was punished for his ride on Alpha Queue in the ninth race at Laurel Park on Jan. 16.

The gelding was supposed to carry 115 pounds, according to the report, and Crispin rides at 108 pounds. His suspension began Monday.

Crispin's agent, Kevin Witte, could not be reached for comment.

Crispin is the leading rider at Laurel Park this year, with a record of 156: 33-27-25 and winnings of $907,848.

Linda Gaudet, part of the Team Gaudet ownership group behind Alpha Queue, told DRF that she was notified in late January that Alpha Queue had been disqualified from the race. The third-place purse was $3,300.
