Report: Horseshoe Indianapolis cancels 3 races for gate issues

Horseshoe Indianapolis canceled its last three races Thursday because of starting-gate problems.

The track and the jockeys were uncomfortable with how the starting gate was releasing, according to a report Thursday evening by Ray Paulick of the Paulick Report. The gate being used Thursday was a backup after the main gate had problems in October.

Horseshoe Indianapolis did not conduct gate schooling on Friday and will decide Friday whether schooling will happen Saturday. The track reportedly is contacting starting-gate companies and other tracks to find starting gates to bring in if their existing gate cannot be fixed before racing is scheduled to resume Monday. Horse Racing Nation has reached out to the track for an update on the starting gate and training plans.

The daily double starting in race 7, the Pick 3 sequences starting in race 6 and race 7 and the late Pick 4 and Pick 5 sequences paid to all horses on the canceled legs. The track plans to bring the three canceled races back on its closing-day card next Thursday.
