Report: Gosden, Dettori team up again after brief rift
English trainer John Gosden and star jockey Frankie Dettori have resolved their rift and will team up again.
Racing Post reported that Dettori will ride Inspiral, the favorite in Friday's Falmouth Stakes (G1) at Newmarket and Emily Upjohn in the Irish Oaks (G1) at Curragh this month. He also will ride Mighty Ulysses in the Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket for the stable on Friday.
Dettori has not ridden for Gosden, either in a race or a work, since June 18 after a disagreement over the jockey's performance at Royal Ascot. The two agreed to take what the trainer called a "sabbatical," Racing Post reported.
Gosden, who trains with his son Thady, criticized some of Dettori's rides at Royal Ascot, especially his defeats on Stradivarius in the Gold Cup (G1) and on Saga in the Britannia Stakes.
Although the trainers and jockey are working together again, Gosden told Racing Post, "I need a jockey who focuses. It can't be a part-time job. As was pointed out at Wimbledon, Rafa Nadal practices the most and the hardest in the mornings, which is what it's all about."
Dettori will has two mounts Saturday at Belmont Park for trainer Charlie Appleby, riding With The Moonlight in the Belmont Oaks (G1) and Nations Pride in the Belmont Derby (G1).
