Report: Oaks-winning jockey arrested in human trafficking sting
Retired jockey Fabio Arguello Jr., who rode Luv Me Luv Me Not to victory in the 1992 Kentucky Oaks, is in custody after arrested Saturday as part of an undercover sting over the weekend, according to Louisville's ABC affiliate, WHAS11.
One of seven men arrested in the two-day operation, Arguello, 47, is being held on a $50,000 cash bail after being charged with human trafficking and prohibited use of electronic communication equipment to procure a minor.
Arguello allegedly responded to fake online ads of an undercover female police officer posing as a minor attempting to exchange sex acts for money.
Having been named to the board of directors to the Backside Learning Center at Churchill Downs last year, Arguello is in the process of being removed from his duties, per Executive Directory Sherry Stanley.
A 1991 Eclipse Award finalist for outstanding apprentice rider and winner of 1,251 races aboard 12,445 career mounts, Arguello last rode in March of 2018. In addition to his stint with the non-profit resource center for backstretch workers, Arguello also served as a jockey agent.
