Five G is scratched from Kentucky Oaks after not training well
Five G, winner of the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks, is being scratched from Friday's Kentucky Oaks (G1).
David Grening of Daily Racing Form reported the scratch Thursday morning, and a stable source confirmed it for Horse Racing Nation.
In an X post, Grening said Five G backed off her feed and wasn't training with great energy. "This is the type of race where you've got to be 110 percent, and we don’t feel like she is," trainer George Weaver told Grening.
Five G was 12-1 on the morning line for the Kentucky Oaks and was at 25-1 in advance wagering Thursday morning. The Vekoma filly, a Gatsas Stables homebred, has a record of 6: 3-2-0 and was second to Quietside in the Honeybee (G3) before her Gulfstream Park Oaks victory.
Her defection leaves the field at 13 as no also-eligibles were drawn for the race. Good Cheer, the morning-line favorite at 6-5, shortened to 4-5 in advance wagering.
