Servis in newly released transcript: 'I'm scared to death'

A court filing provides transcripts of recorded phone conversations between trainers Jorge Navarro and Jason Servis and others charged in the federal horse-doping case against them and 25 other defendants in March 2020.

As Thoroughbred Daily News reported earlier Tuesday, the conversations show brazenness about being caught administering illegal drugs and ignorance about the substances involved.

Some of the conversations involve veterinarian Kristian Rhein, who pleaded guilty in August to one count of drug adulteration and misbranding for use in the covert doping of Thoroughbreds. Rhein also directly implicated Servis, who was a client.

Also in August, Navarro pleaded guilty to participating in a drug adulteration and misbranding conspiracy. Servis is challenging his drug conspiracy charge.

The transcripts were part of a federal filing in opposition to a motion by some of the defendants to suppress intercepted communications and other evidence.

The documents indicate that in a March 2019 phone call, Servis told Navarro that he was “scared to death” because “the horses are running like crazy.” Navarro laughed and replied, “You're killing them, buddy!”

Here is part of another March 2019 call in which Navarro and Servis allegedly discuss PEDs and a drug that they also referred to as “SGF.”

Navarro: And if you know something new, if you know about something new, don't forget about your man, okay? Don't forget about your man.

Servis: I'll tell you what, Jorge. I'm using that (expletive) shot. What is it, SGF?

Navarro: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I got, uh, I got more than 12 horses on that so I'll let you know, okay?

Servis: I've been using it on everything, almost.

You can read more from the transcripts below, with expletives not deleted. The section regarding Servis begins on page 86.
