The Florida horse racing community was left reeling Friday when it was reported that two people with deep roots in the industry were involved in an automobile accident that left one person dead and another fighting for her life.
According to The Gainesville Sun, the accident occurred on southbound Interstate 75, just north of Ocala. Witnesses told the Florida Highway Patrol that a Toyota pickup driven by Coty Lee Davidson, a trainer, was traveling in the center lane when it suddenly veered off the road and struck the guardrail twice. The pickup then overturned onto its roof, ejecting passenger Megan Fadlovich.
Fadlovich, a jockey who rode in races as recently as last year, was thrown over the guardrail and fell 40 feet onto another guardrail on the county road below.
According to the a report, Davidson was able to extricate himself from the vehicle. However, in an apparent attempt to try and help Fadlovich, Davidson fell over the overpass onto the shoulder of CR 329, where he later died.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the area is dark, and it was likely that Davidson didn’t realize how steep the drop was.
FHP officers said that neither Fadlovich nor Davidson, who had recently started dating, were wearing a seatbelt.
Fadlovich was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where she was listed in serious condition.
Fadlovich had been making the transition to become a trainer over the winter, and both she and Davidson were based at the Classic Mile Training Center in Ocala.
As a jockey, Illinois native Fadlovich won 502 races since starting out in 2010. Both Fadlovich and Davidson competed primarily at Mountaineer Park in West Virginia and Belterra Park in Ohio.
Davidson, a Los Angeles native, saddled his first horse as a trainer in 2011. His most notable runner was Mr Chocolate Chip, who finished second in the Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) in 2018.
