Report: Ewing will not run in Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland
Ewing, winner of the Grade 2 Saratoga Special, will not run Saturday in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland.
Trainer Mark Casse will take him out of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile qualifier after he determined Ewing was not 100% after training Friday morning, according to a post on X by Nicole Russo of Daily Racing Form. Casse plans to "go over him from head to toe" and then rest him before a 3-year-old campaign. Horse Racing Nation reached out to Casse via text message Friday for comment but had not yet received a response.
Ewing, a 2-year-old son of 2018 Breeders' Futurity winner Knicks Go, is undefeated in two starts for Casse and owners D. J. Stable, West Point Thoroughbreds and Kenneth Freirich. He won by 12 lengths at first asking in a 5 1/2-furlong sprint at Saratoga on July 5 then followed up with a frontrunning one-length victory over Obliteration in the Saratoga Special on Aug. 2.
On the strength of that form, Ewing had been named the 9-2 third choice in the Breeders' Futurity behind Hopeful (G1) winner Ted Noffey (4-5) and Saratoga maiden winner Big Dom (5-1).
