Quarter-horse jockey Ricardo Hernandez Perez was arrested Saturday after races concluded at Delta Downs and faces allegations of cheating.

KPLC-TV of Lake Charles, La., reported that Perez tried to run from Louisiana State Police detectives as they conducted checks of each jockey. A police spokesperson said Perez tried to run and removed a battery-operated shocking device from his clothing and discarded it in a horse stall.

Hernandez-Perez was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with unnatural stimulation of horses, according to the report.

Officials with Delta Downs, the Louisiana Racing Commission and the Louisiana State Police could not be reached for comment.

Perez raced in one event Saturday, winning a maiden-claimer by a neck. He was entered in six races Wednesday evening.
