Report: Debut winner Strat Mo Matic is euthanized after fall
Strat Mo Matic, a debut winner who carried futures odds of 225-1 in Las Vegas to win Kentucky Derby 2024, was euthanized this week after breaking down during a morning gallop Tuesday, Daily Racing Form reported Friday.
The 3-year-old Uncle Mo colt who had been barned at Belmont Park fractured both sesamoids in his right front leg, according to DRF’s David Grening. As a 4-5 favorite, Strat Mo Matic won his first race Dec. 16 at Aqueduct. It was a six-furlong, maiden test against four rivals who, like him, were 2 at the time.
Strat Mo Matic, a play on the name of the tabletop game that uses statistics to simulate Major League Baseball outcomes, was owned by Danny Chen, Campbell Road Stables, Ken Abeles and his trainer Ed Barker. Bred by Mike Repole, he was bought for $23,000 in March at a sale in Florida.
DRF said Strat Mo Matic was being aimed by Barker toward the Jimmy Winkfield Stakes on Jan. 27 at Aqueduct.
