Report: Coolmore acquires interest in Breeders' Cup winner Nysos
Coolmore has acquired an intrerest in Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Nysos and will stand him upon retirement.
Nysos is expected to take up a stud career at Coolmore's Ashford Stud starting in 2027 according to a report from Thoroughbred Daily News.
Currently boasting a career record of 9: 7-2-0, Nysos began his career with a maiden win, a score in the 2023 Bob Hope (G3) and then another in the Robert B. Lewis (G3) in 2024. He did not race again for another 15 months, but looked strong returning in the Churchill Downs (G1) on the 2025 Kentucky Derby undercard. In that race, he missed by a neck to Mindframe, dead-heating for second and beating eventual sprint champion Book'em Danno, who was another head back in fourth. Nysos followed that up with four graded-stakes wins in 2025 including the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.
Nysos has raced once in 2026. He shipped east for the Saudi Cup (G1) on Feb. 14, where he ran a competitive second behind Breeders' Cup Classic winner Forever Young. Baffert did not announce a next short-range goal for Nysos, only longer-term plans to point him toward the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Nysos is a 5-year-old son of Nyquist out of the Bernardini mare Zetta Z. Coolmore purchased Zetta Z for $2 million at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky February mixed sale in 2024 while she was in foal to Cyberknife. Zetta Z was bred to Coolmore's stallion Justify for both 2025 and 2026.
