Report: Champion British Idiom diagnosed with ankle chip
Champion filly British Idiom has been was found with an ankle chip in her right-front ankle that will sideline her two months, trainer Brad Cox told BloodHorse on Sunday.
The 3-year-old daughter of Flashback, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in November, was sent to visit renowned veterinarian Dr. Larry Bramlage in Kentucky after her 10th-place finish in the Fantasy Stakes (G3) on May 1 at Oaklawn Park.
Cox expected British Idiom could resume campaigning this fall, but the news will likely prevent her from competing in the top race for 3-year-old fillies, the Sept. 4 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs.
After her Breeders' Cup victory, British Idiom came off a 106-day layoff for her 2020 debut, a second to Finite in Fair Grounds' Rachel Alexandra (G2) in February.
Going back to her 2-year-old season, the relative bargain of a yearling purchase at $40,000 broke her maiden on debut at Saratoga in a race restricted to horses that sold for $45,000 or less or RNA'd. Next time out, the filly proved her class by running away with Keeneland's Alcibiades Stakes (G1).
