Report: Cairo Memories is euthanized after an illness
Cairo Memories, a 3-year-old filly with 3 stakes wins, has been euthanized after an illness.
Trainer Bob Hess Jr. told Daily Racing Form that the Cairo Prince filly was sent from California to Kentucky last moth to be sold at the Fasig-Tipton November sale. She was withdrawn from the sale because of illness, and her condition deteriorated.
Hess told DRF that Cairo Memories was "in good shape" when she left California but got sick on the flight.
Cairo Memories was owned by David A. Bernsen LLC and Schroeder Farms and was purchased for $50,000 as a yearling. She had a career record of 10: 4-1-1 and earnings of $420,500.
After breaking her maiden in her first start, Cairo Memories won the Surfer Girl stakes at Santa Anita. That was enough for her to enter the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, where she finished ninth. Her wins as a 3-year-old came in the Providence (G3) and the Honeymoon (G3).
Her most recent start was in the Oct. 29 Autumn Miss (G3), where she finished fifth.
