Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Battle of Midway, who was retired to stud at WinStar Farm following his victory last November, is back in training, the Daily Racing Form reported Sunday.

According to DRF, WinStar President and CEO Elliott Walden said Battle of Midway impregnated just five of 60 mares to which he was bred due to subfertility.

The 4-year-old colt is now in the care of Rodolphe Brisset, who trains Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby winner Quip, and is also known as the conditioner who first trained Triple Crown hopeful Justify. He will later return to the barn of Jerry Hollendorfer.

Battle of Midway, a son of Smart Strike, ran third in last year's Kentucky Derby at 40-1 and found even more success shortening up. He won both Santa Anita's Affirmed (G3) and Del Mar's Shared Belief before taking the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.

Per DRF, insurance company Great American took temporary ownership of the colt due to the subfertility claim. He remained at WinStar throughout the process as WinStar and Don Alberto Farm bought him back.
