Report: Breeders' Cup Turf winner Tarnawa to stay in training
Breeders' Cup Turf winner Tarnawa will remain in training for a 5-year-old campaign in 2021.
According to a report from The Irish Times, Tarnawa will be rested for the first part of the year before ramping up for an autumn campaign centered on France's marquee race.
“The plan is for Tarnawa to stay in training next year, which is good news. We will look forward to training her for [an] autumn campaign again which will hopefully include the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe,” said trainer Dermot Weld.
Tarnawa's Breeders' Cup win was the first in 17 tries for Weld and came under replacement jockey Colin Keane, who was filling in for regular rider Christophe Soumillon. Soumillon was not allowed to ride in the Breeders' Cup after testing positive for COVID-19.
Tarnawa has won eight of 14 lifetime, including all four of her starts in 2020. She has won three consecutive Group or Grade 1 races.
“She has improved each year, from two to three to four and it’s quite possible she could improve even a little bit more," said Weld.
With many of Europe's top stars retiring — including Enable, Magical and Ghaiyyath — Tarnawa certainly would not have to improve much to be competitive in the Arc de Triomphe (G1).
She is the early 12-1 second choice in future wagering for the race behind Aidan O'Brien's Love.
