Report: Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint winner Starlust will race again
Starlust, winner of the 2024 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, is returning to training after one season at stud in Australia.
The decision to put Starlust back in training with Ralph Beckett was reported Friday by Lydia Simonds of Racing Post. Alex Cole, racing manager for owners Jim and Fitri Hay, said the 5-year-old son of Zoustar went back into training because they thought Starlust would struggle to get enough support in his second season at stud. He got about 70 mares in foal but was bred to 102.
He has been kept intact, according to the report, and his connections are leaving open the possibility of returning him to stud if he gets a good horse in his first crop.
Starlust has a 21: 6-3-3 record and US$967,951 in earnings. He won twice at the graded- or group-stakes level when he was previously in Beckett's barn: the Sirenia (G3) at Kempton in 2023 and the 2024 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. He was also third in the 2023 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
Starlust reportedly is being pointed for a return in the five-furlong Temple (G2) at Haydock on May 23, a race in which he finished seventh in 2025. He holds an entry in that race as well as in two races at Royal Ascot, the five-furlong King Charles III (G1) on June 16 and the six-furlong Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee (G1) on June 20. He was fourth in the King Charles in 2025, his last start before going to stud in Australia.
