Breeders' Cup Distaff winner Malathaat has been retired.

Malathaat will remain with her owner Shadwell Farm and join their broodmare band, as reported by Claire Crosby of BloodHorse. Shadwell purchased Malathaat as a yearling for $1,050,000 at the Keeneland September sale. A 4-year-old daughter of Curlin out of Grade 1 winner Dreaming of Julia, she earned over three times her purchase price on the racetrack.

Trained by Todd Pletcher throughout her career, Malathaat retires with a 14: 10-3-1 record. Her 10 victories include six at the Grade 1 level, including the 2021 Kentucky Oaks. In six starts this year, she marked herself as the favorite to win champion older dirt female honors. She never finished worse than second in 2022, and she finished her career with three consecutive Grade 1 wins in the Personal Ensign, Spinster and Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Gregory Clarke, Shadwell's farm manager, told BloodHorse that Malathaat's mating plans for 2023 have not been finalized yet, but that they planned to send her to a "proven, top stallion."
