Seven-year-old Bowies Hero was euthanized Monday because of complications from laminitis.

The Daily Racing Form reported that the winner of two Grade 1 races had been undergoing treatment at a Southern California veterinary clinic in recent weeks for an infection in his right foreleg.

Trainer Phil D'Amato told DRF that Bowies Hero had responded to treatment but that his health then declined.

Bowies Hero was owned by Agave Racing Stable, ERJ Racing LLC, Madaket Stables LLC and Rockin Robin Racing Stable. He had a career record of 28: 8-2-3 and earnings of $1.6 million.

His Grade 1 wins came in the 2018 Frank E. Kilroe Mile and the 2019 Shadwell Turf Mile.

In his most recent start, Bowies Hero finished fifth in the San Gabriel (G2) at Santa Anita on Jan. 2.
