Big Lake, who finished a promising third in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes, is off the Kentucky Derby trail after coming out of the race with an injury, the Daily Racing Form reported.
Trainer Steve Asmussen told the DRF that the Big Lake suffered a condylar fracture in one of his legs and will be out indefinitely.
The son of American Pharoah broke his maiden at Fair Grounds on third try in January. Then he won an allowance race there in February before his start in the Rebel, where he finished behind Concert Tour and Hozier.
Owned and bred by Mike Rutherford, Big Lake had morning-line odds of 50-1 in Pool 5 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which opens for betting on Friday.
