Television rights for the Belmont Stakes could move from NBC to Fox according to a report from Front Office Sports. NBC’s contract to show the race expires after the 2022 edition of the Belmont.

According to the FOS story, NBC could sell the rights to the 2022 race to Fox, which would otherwise take over in 2023. The Belmont has been shown on NBC since 2011.

NBC will continue to carry the Kentucky Derby and Preakness for the foreseeable future.

According to FOS, Fox will pay $5 million per year for the rights to the third crown jewel. A renewal with NBC would have paid $3 million per year.

The move to Fox could lead to the Belmont being sponsored by Fox Bet, which FOS reported could pay $7 million to become the title sponsor of the race.

Fox already has a deal with the New York Racing Association to show races on its various networks through 2030.

The 2022 Belmont Stakes is scheduled for June 11.
