Report: Audible continues route to Pegasus World Cup 2019
Grade 1 winner Audible will aim for the Pegasus World Cup 2019 following a runner-up finish in the Harlan's Holiday Stakes (G3) Dec. 15, WinStar Farm's CEO and president Elliott Walden told the Thoroughbred Daily News. The Pegasus World Cup runs Saturday, Jan. 26 at Gulfstream Park, a track Audible showed a liking for on the Derby trail this spring.
WinStar is partnered with China Horse Club, Head of Plains Partners, LLC and Starlight Racing on Audible.
The 3-year-old Into Mischief colt won both the Holy Bull Stakes (G2) and the Florida Derby (G1) on his way to a show finish in the Kentucky Derby. He was away for six months before returning to win the Cherokee Run Stakes on the Breeders' Cup undercard.
The Harlan's Holiday served as the Todd Pletcher trainee's final prep before the Pegasus. Audible was off as the heavy 1-9 favorite, but was caught by 25-1 shot Sir Anthony over a sloppy track. Sir Anthony won by half a length.
"I was disappointed with his race, but when you stand back and look at it, it was on a sloppy racetrack and he had a very wide trip," Walden told the TDN. "With those two factors, we will give him the benefit of the doubt. If you stand back and look at his record, it’s pretty solid. He has never been off the board and has won four of seven starts. It’s a pretty stellar record and he deserves the opportunity to go in the Pegasus."
