Adare Manor is out; Dr. Venkman is favorite in Pacific Classic

Adare Manor, the 5-year-old mare who was the morning-line favorite against males in Saturday's Grade 1 Pacific Classic, will not start in the race at Del Mar.

As reported earlier by Steve Andersen of Daily Racing Form, trainer Bob Baffert said Friday morning that Adare Manor tied up after her gallop Thursday.

"She tied up a little after her gallop yesterday and was still a little tight this morning," Baffert told Horse Racing Nation in a text message Friday. "I don’t feel she’s a hundred percent. She can’t be off her game even a little bit tomorrow, so we’re going to sit this one out."

Adare Manor is on a three-race win streak, with victories in the Apple Blossom (G1), Santa Margarita (G2) and Clement L. Hirsch (G1) last out.

She was the 9-5 favorite on the morning line. The 5-2 second choice was Dr. Venkman, trained by Mark Glatt. The 4-year-old gelding by Ghostzapper won the San Diego Handicap (G2) last out and has a record of 5: 3-2-0.

The daughter of Uncle Mo, owned by Michael Lund Petersen, has a career record of 18: 10-5-0 and earnings of $2,096,600.

Dr. Venkman, who is 5: 3-2-0 with a win last month in the San Diego Handicap (G2), was made the 8-5 favorite on the revised morning line.
