Report: Account wagering is cleared to resume in Michigan

Advance-deposit wagering was cleared to resume in Michigan Friday after the state’s gaming-control board approved a license for Northville Downs to run two brief standardbred meets this year.

Daily Racing Form reported the move effectively brought approval of the track’s contract with third-party ADW operators.

NYRA Bets, FanDuel Racing-TVG and Xpessbet were cleared to accept wagers, but TwinSpires cannot because of litigation between the board and the ADW operator owned by Churchill Downs Inc.

TwinSpires sued the gaming board after the agency put an end to advance-deposit wagering in the state. TwinSpires claimed that a federal law that allows online betting should preempt Michigan authorities from shutting it down in the state.

The board allowed its approval of ADW to lapse after the closure last year of Northville Downs, Michigan’s last remaining track.

But Northville Downs reconstituted as a business entity late last year, DRF reported, and an application for a new license was approved Friday.
