Report: About to turn 6, Closing Remarks will race in 2024
Closing Remarks, who won four Grade 2 turf races this year to put her on the threshold of being a millionaire, will stay in training to race in 2023, according to a report Friday.
Breeder-owner John Harris, a former chairperson of the California Horse Racing Board, “wants to continue running her,” trainer Barbara Gaines told Daily Racing Form.
About to turn 6, the daughter of Vronsky has started all but one of her 25 races in Southern California. Earning 60 percent of her $999,820 purse money this year, Closing Remarks won the Royal Heroine, Yellow Ribbon Handicap, John C. Mabee and Goldikova, all Grade 2s, between April and November.
In her most recent race, Closing Remarks came in sixth in the Matriarch (G1) on Dec. 3 at Del Mar.
Gaines told DRF that the Megahertz (G3) in February and the Buena Vista (G2) in March may be 2024 targets for Closing Remarks, who was bred at Harris Farms in Coalinga, Calif., and has a career record of 25: 7-5-4.
