The Governor’s Cup will anchor the program as race 10. Paluxy, the 2023 winner of the Governor’s Cup, will defend his title in the race against five rivals. The first stakes race of the season is for 3-year-olds and older at 1 1/8 miles on the main track. The race is set for 11:51 p.m. EDT.

The 10 races drew a total of 92 horses for a 9.2 average field size. Total purses for opening night are at $314.000.

The first turf event of the season takes place in the eighth race of the evening. A starter allowance field of nine will compete at 7 1/2 furlongs over the grass.

Stewart Elliott, the defending leading jockey at Remington Park, has been named on mounts in five of the 10 races to start the season.

Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, the defending leading conditioner, will attempt to win his 19th season title at Remington Park. Asmussen has entered Unload into the Governor’s Cup as his only potential starter for the first night. Unload is the morning-line favorite for the event at 2-1 odds.

The Thoroughbred season at Remington Park will run for 67 dates, through Dec. 13.
