Remington Park: Offolter wins 500th career race on Labor Day

Trainer Joe Offolter, a mainstay at Remington Park since the track opened, won his 500th career race in Oklahoma City on Labor Day. The mark came when Lady Will Power pulled away to break her maiden in the second race of the afternoon, over the turf.

Also owned by Offolter of Blanchard, Okla., Lady Will Power sat behind the pace in the one mile lawn event, waiting until midway through the second turn to begin her move. Ridden by Luis Quinonez, the 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly was roused at the top of the stretch and angled out around rivals. Lady Will Power came alongside the pace-setting Jill’s Firebird with just under a furlong left. Jill’s Firebird tired at the end of the lane with Lady Will Power pulling away by 1-1/4 lengths to get the 500th Remington Park win for Offolter.

“Remington Park has been good to me and my family,” Offolter said from the winner’s circle. “We’ve been here since day one. It’s been a big year for us, we picked up our 1,000th career win earlier this year at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla.”

Offolter is third all-time for training wins at Remington Park. Donnie Von Hemel is first with 1,011 wins while Steve Asmussen is second with 790.

Lady Will Power is a daughter of Old Fashioned from the Cozzene mare Warm N Cozzy.

The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season will continue Thursday thru Saturday, Sept. 7-9. The initial stakes race of the season takes place on Friday night with the $50,000 Remington Park Turf Sprint at five furlongs for Oklahoma-breds, 3 and older. The first race is at 7pm-Central nightly.
