Remembering Barbaro

This is the five-year anniversary of Barbaro’s Kentucky Derby win, and reminders of the colt and his victory are everywhere. Alex Brown has produced a beautiful full-color coffee table book (Greatness and Goodness: Barbaro and his Legacy), and editors of the 2011 Kentucky Derby souvenir magazine asked me to talk with Barbaro’s connections about their memories as well. Reading Brown’s book, an amazing inside view of all that went on with the colt, and checking in with Gretchen Jackson, Michael Matz, and Edgar Prado, I realized how deeply Barbaro touched so many lives. It’s hard to believe so many seasons have passed since we watched him train and race.
