Trainer Mark Casse notched his 2000th career victory at Gulfstream Park Saturday, when Reimburse rolled to a three-length victory in the second race.

Casse, who is basing a division at Gulfstream Park during the spring and summer meetings for the first time,  has risen to the top ranks of trainers in North America since launching his training career at the age of 17 on the Massachusetts fair circuit and officially saddling his first winner the following year at Keeneland.

The 55-year-old native of Indianapolis, who resides in Ocala and Kleinburg, Ontario, is an eight-time Sovereign Award-winning trainer in Canada and was elected to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame this year.

Casse enjoyed his most productive season in 2015, when he saddled 159 winners, including Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner Tepin and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Turf (G1) winner Catch a Glimpse, and his stable topped $13.6 million in purses-won.

Reimburse, the 6-5 favorite, closed with a rush under jockey Tyler Gaffalione to capture the $50,000 claiming race for fillies and mares at a mile on turf. The 3-year-old daughter of Artie Schiller was saddled by assistant trainer Jamie Begg.

Note: Aire Bueno and jockey Matthew Rispoli held off a late rush by Quiet Force Saturday to win the featured fifth race, an allowance optional claiming event. Trained by Charles Simon, Aire Bueno, a 7-year-old gelding, won for the 11th time in 37 starts.
