Jed Cohen, one of the leading racehorse owners in California, died at his home in Del Mar Sunday at age 89.

The Cohen family owns Red Baron’s Barn, which Daily Racing Form reported won 16 stakes with runners such as Itsinthepost, River Boyne and Sharp Samurai in partnership with son Tim Cohen’s Rancho Temescal.

River Boyne was their only Grade 1 winner, scoring in the 2020 Frank E. Kilroe Mile in addition to four other graded stakes.

The Red Baron's Barn and Rancho Temescal partnership is the top owner at the current Del Mar meet, with a record of 11: 4-3-0. They finished third at the most recent Santa Anita meet, with a record of 25: 5-4-3.

Cohen was a native of Long Island N.Y., who had an investment advisory business in Beverly Hills, according to the DRF report. He attended races with his father in New York when he was young and moved to California in the late 1950s. Cohen launched his stable in the early 1960s.
