Recovering jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson is out of intensive care unit

Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson has been transferred out of the intensive care unit as she continues to recover from injuries she suffered in a fall at Woodbine on Oct. 25.

According to a Friday-morning post on X from Wilson's wife, Dr. Laura Trotter, Emma-Jayne Wilson's condition has stabilized and there is no active brain bleeding as a result of her injuries. The jockey's move out of the ICU previously was reported by Paulick Report.

Wilson was riding Ready Shakespeare in a claiming-level sprint at Woodbine last Friday when the horse suffered what appeared to be a fatal cardiac incident near the nine-sixteenths pole. She fell from the horse, and doctors diagnosed her with fractures to her neck and pelvis. She had surgery to stabilize her pelvis and sacrum.

The top-earning female rider in history, Wilson has been riding since 2004. She earned the Eclipse Award for champion apprentice jockey in 2005, and Sovereign Awards for Canadian champion apprentice in both 2005 and 2006.

She has won 1,930 races and earned over $91 million in purses during that career. Her wins at the top level include the 2015 Northern Dancer Turf (G1) with Interpol, the 2020 Natalma (G1) with Lady Speightspeare, and the 2020 Northern Dancer Turf with Say the Word.
