Rocket Reign, dismissed at 99-1 on the tote board, made his 16th time the charm, breaking his maiden in the last race at the Meadowlands on Friday afternoon, paying a record $366.60 for a $2 win wager.

Owned and trained by Frances A. Meares, Rocket Reign and jockey Cory Orm rode the rail around the far turn and pushed past pacesetter and 7-5 favorite Media Groupie in late stretch to take the $14,000 maiden claiming event at a mile and 70 yards on firm turf.

The previous record of $354.80 for a $2 win wager was set by Great Normand in winning the 1980 Meadowlands Cup.

Rocket Reign’s win resulted in a trio of carryovers for Saturday’s live Meadowlands card.  The Pick 4 carryover will be $5,707.22; the Pick 5, $7,739.26; and, the Jersey Six $556.02.  Saturday’s card gets underway at 2:15 p.m.
