New to the Calumet Farm stallion roster for 2019 is Ransom the Moon, the Kentucky farm announced this week.

Ransom the Moon, a son of leading sire Malibu Moon, will stand for $7,500 LFSN. As the only Grade 1-winning sprinting son of Malibu Moon to go to stud, Ransom the Moon offers breeders with a dirt-speed option on an incredible sire line. Ransom the Moon has won two Grade 1 races In California, the 2017 and 2018 runnings of including the 2018 (G1) Bing Crosby at Del Mar. In both editions, Ransom the Moon defeated two-time Breeders' Cup Sprint winner and Eclipse champion Roy H.

“He is beautiful, and if he replicates himself we are set," Calumet's Jak Knelman said of Ransom the Moon. "He is about 16.2 and has a beautiful neck and topline with a strong hip and hind leg. Looking at his profile, He looks like a classic distance horse but he has the speed to win at 6 furlongs."

“Ransom the Moon possesses speed, an immense turn of foot and class above all else," added trainer Phil D'Amato. "Those are the qualities I look for in a top class racehorse. He’s one of the most talented horses that I have ever trained."

Ransom the Moon joins the Calumet roster headlined by perennial leading sire English Channel, a six-time Grade 1 winner and Breeders’ Cup Turf hero. This year English Channel has sired 16 individual blacktype winners with four Grade 1 winners in Heart to Heart, Johnny Bear, Channel Maker and Voodoo Song

After Breeding 176 and 125 mares respectively, Travers Stakes (G1) winner Keen Ice and Brazilian Triple Crown winner Bal a Bali enter their second year with support of strong first year books.

Oxbow continues to show great potential, as he bred bigger and better crops each year at stud with next year’s 2-year-old crop from 153 bred and his following crop from 187 bred. With Grade 2 winner Coach Rocks leading his first crop. Graded stakes winner Oxy Lady has his 2018 juvenile crop off to a fast start, posting one of the highest 2yo Beyer figure of the year.

“Our roster features a wide variety of bloodlines possessing soundness, quality conformation, and a propensity to winning classic two-turn races on both dirt and turf," Knelman said. "We are focused not only on building long term relationships with breeders but also sharing in the commercial and racing success of our stallions. I am certain we will have something to fit the needs of almost any breeder."
