New Farm’s Rainbow Heir made the front within the first few jumps and expanded his lead throughout, capturing the $60,000 Wolf Hill Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday by 7 ¾ lengths before a crowd of 10,949.
Trained by Jason Servis, Rainbow Heir covered the 5 ½ furlongs over a fast main track in 1:02.72 and returned $6, $4 and $2.40 as the second choice in the field of five colts and geldings that scratched down to a quintet when the race was transferred to the main track. Beantown Saint completed the $37.40 exacta and paid $6.40 and $3.20. It was another 3 ¼ lengths back to post-time favorite Saratoga Dreamer, who paid $2.10 to show.
“The trainer never gave me any instructions,” said winning jockey Antonio Gallardo. “He kept telling me the horse is doing really great and super fit. He broke super sharp from the gate and he went really fast without me asking him for anything. I asked him a couple of times at the top of the stretch and he exploded. He made 1:02 look easy.”
The graded stakes winning Rainbow Heir is a homebred by Wildcat Heir from the Prospectors Gamble mare Rainbow Pride. Bred in New Jersey, Rainbow Heir earned $47,880 for his efforts on Sunday, boosting his lifetime bankroll to $436,590 and a record of 9-2-1 from 20 outings.
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Friday, July 15 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m. As always, the racetrack is open seven days a week for simulcasting from across the country and around the globe.
