Racing at Del Mar with Marc Doche: Wickerr Wednesday

Racing resumes after two dark days with another loaded card and bettors set to fire away at a Pick 6 carryover of $239,490, which was enhanced by the $50,000 automatically added into Sunday’s pool by Del Mar management as part of a new promotion. Today’s pool is likely to soar to $1.5 million.

Weekday stakes action adds to the festivities with a full field of ten set to run a mile on the turf in the $85,000 Wickerr.

Blue Chagall seeks a repeat victory in this ungraded stake and is the 5-to-2 morning line favorite despite being winless in all seven starts of 2011. The six-year-old French-bred son of Testa Rossa did also win the Riot in Paris at Hollywood Park in his final start of 2010; his only win in 11 starts since capturing last year’s Wickerr.

We were unable to land a big score through the first week of the meet, but the Pick 4 profits remain at over $4,000 for the year.
