Queen has decision on Irish Derby favorite

THE QUEEN is unlikely to decide until the middle of the week whether Carlton House will seek Classic compensation in Sunday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, but bookmakers have offered their own recommendations, installing the royal star as short as 6-4 favourite for the Curragh showpiece.

Carlton House was unable to end the Queen's long and frustrating wait for a first success in the Investec Derby when an arguably unlucky third at Epsom, but his owner has not even had a runner in the premier Classic's Irish equivalent, in which her involvement would add significant spice.

That possibility seemed to increase on Saturday when Carlton House delighted connections in a workout on Newmarket's Racecourse Side gallop, on which the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Totesport Dante Stakes winner stormed clear of an older stablemate.
