Quality Road tops Lane's End 2019 stallion roster with increased fee
Lane’s End Farm announced their 2019 stud fees Tuesday, with Quality Road
topping the list at more than twice his 2018 price. The 2019 roster will also
feature newcomers Accelerate,
City of Light
and West Coast.
Quality Road, listed at $70,000 in 2018, has sired champions Abel Tasman and
Caledonia Road along with Grade 1 winners City of Light, Bellafina and Spring
Quality. Abel Tasman collected Grade 1 titles at ages 2, 3 and 4 and is
expected to head to the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, a race she was second in
a year ago. After winning the Starlet at 2, Abel Tasman return the next year to
win the Kentucky Oaks, the Acorn and the Coaching Club American Oaks. She also scored
in this year’s Ogden Phipps and Personal Ensign.
Bellafina, winner of the Del Mar Debutante and Chandelier, is also expected to be a favorite for the Nov. 2 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
The stallion also had a colt from the same family as Spring Quality sell for $1.1 million at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale among other high six-figure purchases.
Quality Road was a multiple Grade 1 winner himself, collecting victories in the Florida Derby, Woodward Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap and Donn Handicap, which is now replaced by the Pegasus World Cup.
Accelerate, West Coast and City of Light will likely have their fees announced after the 2018 Breeders’ Cup. Accelerate and West Coast – one-two in the Awesome Again – are expected to face off in the Classic while City of Light connections have been considering the Dirt Mile.
