Error in counting past earnings changes King’s Plate field

An error in the counting of past earnings for King's Plate entrant Enjoythesilent means he drew into the main field for Sunday’s race at Woodbine, demoting El Cohete to an also-eligible outsider looking in and waiting for a scratch.

According to a Saturday morning statement from Woodbine, "The career earnings for Enjoythesilent have been adjusted after it was discovered that an Ontario sired bonus of CA$714 (US$527) had erroneously not been inputted by Equibase into Enjoythesilent’s earnings after his first start in July 2022. As a result, Enjoythesilent officially has higher career earnings than El Cohete, who is currently in the field for the King’s Plate."

Equibase had no further comment to Horse Racing Nation on the issue aside from directing to the Woodbine statement.

Stewards at Woodbine will scratch El Cohete from the King's Plate if no horses in the main field defect by Sunday morning. If any horses come out of the main field, both horses will be permitted to start. El Cohete drew post 16 in the 17-horse field, though that post may shift inward depending on who remains in. Enjoythesilent will break from outside of every horse except for Runaway Charlie, should that one draw in as the second also-eligible.

Trainers Mike DePaulo and Kevin Attard, who condition El Cohete and Enjoythesilent, were informed Friday that there were earnings missed for Enjoythesilent, according to a Tweet from Jennifer Morrison of Canadian Thoroughbred; Jamie Dykstra of the Woodbine media office confirmed to Horse Racing Nation that DePaulo and Attard had been contacted.

Jockey Luis Contreras was originally named on both Moon Landing and Enjoythesilent. According to his agent Al Raymond, Contreras will ride Moon Landing. Trainer Kevin Attard, who conditions five King's Plate entrants including both Moon Landing and Enjoythesilent, has not named a new rider for Enjoythesilent.

Both Enjoythesilent and El Cohete are expected to be long shots in the King's plate. Each has only won in maiden-optional claiming company, and neither has started in stakes company. Enjoythesilent is 30-1 on the morning line while El Cohete is 50-1.
