Prospect Watch: Preakness week's pedigreed youngsters

This week's Prospect Watch highlights young horses with elite breeding connections making their debuts across America.

The featured newcomers for Preakness week include a daughter of Breeders' Cup winner Belvoir Bay and promising juveniles from Grade 1-winning families. 

Wednesday

Delaware Park race 6 features Blame and Fortune, a 3-year-old filly by Blame making her career debut. This filly earned her prospect status through her full sister Beyond Blame, a Grade 3 winner who earned $239,000. The filly will tackle six furlongs on dirt with Julio Hernandez aboard for trainer Michael Stidham. Owner MKW Racing bred the filly with Popatop, and she is 5-1 on the morning line in an eight-horse field.

At Horseshoe Indy race 10, Diamond Rock Hill debuts for trainer Michael McCarthy. This 3-year-old filly by Uncle Mo is out of Grade 3 winner Quality Rocks, who earned $316,000 during her racing career. The filly will compete on turf at five furlongs with Axel Concepcion riding for Semaphore Racing. She is 6-1 on the morning line in an 11-horse field, making her turf debut for the homebred daughter of a graded stakes-winning dam.

Thursday

Belmont at Aqueduct race 1 showcases Just Peachy, a 2-year-old filly by Golden Pal making her racing debut. This filly brings impressive family credentials through her half-brother Buchu, a Grade 2 winner who earned $642,000. Out of the mare Flowering Peach, she will tackle 5 1/2 furlongs on turf with Manny Franco aboard for trainer Rodolphe Brisset. The filly races for Storyteller Racing, Storyteller Thoroughbreds and Union Park Thoroughbreds in a seven-horse field.

At Churchill Downs race 1, Juneau makes her debut for trainer Kenny McPeek. This 2-year-old filly by Bolt d'Oro is out of Grade 3 winner Blame Debbie, who earned $291,000 and provides solid black-type credentials to this newcomer who was bred by Titletown Racing Stables. She will race five furlongs on dirt with Emmanuel Esquivel riding for Arindel. The filly is 7-2 on the morning line in an eight-horse field.

Churchill Downs race 8 features Belle Amour, a 3-year-old filly by Justify out of Grade 1 winner Belvoir Bay. This British-bred mare earned an impressive $1.70 million during her racing career with five graded stakes victories, including the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, making her daughter a highly anticipated debut runner. Trainer Steve Asmussen has the homebred filly ready for five furlongs on turf with Jose Ortiz aboard for Cross Triangle Farm. She is 8-1 on the morning line in a competitive 16-horse field.

Friday

Belmont at Aqueduct race 1 presents Tylos, a 2-year-old colt by Gun Runner making his career debut. This colt is out of Grade 3 winner Lady Apple, who earned over $1 million and captured four graded stakes victories during her racing career. Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher has the colt ready for five furlongs on dirt with Kendrick Carmouche riding for owner Nader Alaali. The colt was bred by Three Chimneys Farm and Phoenix Thoroughbred in a six-horse field.

Churchill Downs race 4 showcases Lady Chanel, a 2-year-old filly by first-crop sire Jackie's Warrior making her debut for trainer Wesley Ward. This filly carries exceptional family credentials through her half-brother Defunded, a Grade 1 winner who earned $2.51 million during his racing career. Out of the mare Wind Caper, she will compete at five furlongs on dirt with Gerardo Corrales aboard for owner Mike Rutherford. She is 5-2 on the morning line in a nine-horse field.

Second-time starters

Silver Talent returns for his second start Thursday at Belmont at Aqueduct race 4 after finishing fifth in his debut at Aqueduct on March 29. This 3-year-old colt by Constitution is out of Grade 1 winner Paulassilverlining, who earned $1.52 million and captured seven graded stakes victories. He earned a 99 HRN speed figure in his debut and will be ridden by Flavien Prat for trainer Chad Brown. The Juddmonte homebred tackles one mile on dirt from post one in a six-horse field.

Movie Night makes her second career start Saturday at Churchill Downs race 2 after finishing second in her debut at Keeneland on April 3. This 3-year-old filly by Speightstown is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Stellify, who earned $1.46 million. She earned an impressive 111 HRN speed figure when beaten just 1 1/4 lengths in her debut. Trainer William Walden has the WinStar Farm homebred ready for six furlongs on dirt with Luan Machado aboard at 9-5 morning-line odds in a 12-horse field.

Poise returns Saturday at Churchill Downs race 2 for her second start after finishing third at Keeneland on April 23. This 3-year-old filly by Gun Runner is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Society, who earned over $2 million during her racing career. She earned a 74 HRN speed figure when beaten 3 1/4 lengths in her debut for trainer Steve Asmussen. The Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds homebred will be ridden by Johan Rosado at 8-1 morning-line odds.

Third-time starters

Final Story highlights the lightly raced prospects with elite connections Saturday at Laurel Park race 6, the Sir Barton stakes. This 3-year-old colt by Candy Ride is out of Grade 1 winner Book Review, who earned $885,000 with two Grade 1 victories. Final Story broke his maiden impressively at Keeneland on April 19, winning by six lengths and earning a 97 HRN speed figure. The colt steps up to stakes company for trainer Brad Cox and owners Gary & Mary West, with Irad Ortiz Jr. taking the mount.

Answered Prayers seeks her second victory Sunday at Churchill Downs race 4 after breaking her maiden at Keeneland on April 8. This 3-year-old filly by Speightstown is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Olympiad, who earned over $3 million during his racing career. She won by 2 1/2 lengths while earning a 106 HRN speed figure in her most recent start. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott has the Emory Hamilton homebred ready for 1 1/16 miles on dirt with John Velazquez aboard in a seven-horse allowance field.

Be the Light also competes Sunday in Churchill Downs race 4 after winning her maiden at Keeneland on April 18. This 3-year-old filly by Medaglia d'Oro is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Shared Sense, who earned $577,000. She won by 2 1/4 lengths while earning an 80 HRN speed figure in her most recent start. Trainer Brad Cox has the Godolphin filly ready for 1 1/16 miles on dirt with Luis Saez aboard.
