Prospect Watch: Half-siblings to Jackie's Warrior, Good Magic
Horse Racing Nation’s Prospect Watch scans all upcoming entries for starters early in their careers who sold for more than $500,000 at their most recent auction or whose dams or siblings are graded-stakes winners.
Among this week's runners who meet the Prospect Watch criteria are these spotlight maidens:
Friday, Belterra Park race 5, half-sibling to G1 winner Ivar
Open Heart, a 3-year-old filly by Yoshida, is beginning her career at Belterra Park going one mile on the turf. Trainer Paulo Lobo readies her for owner-breeders Bonne Chance Farm. Brazilian-bred Ivar won the Grade 1 Keeneland Turf Mile in 2020 for the same owner-trainer combo.
Saturday, Belterra Park race 4, half-sibling to G1 winner Jackie's Warrior
White Sands, a 2-year-old filly by Into Mischief, goes 5 1/2 furlongs on the Belterra dirt for trainer Wesley Ward and jockey Walter Rodriguez. She is owned by Mrs. John Magnier and Mrs. Paul Shanahan. Champion Jackie's Warrior won five Grade 1 sprints in his career and $2.9 Million over 18 starts from ages 2 to 4.
Saturday, Churchill Downs race 6, full sibling to champ Good Magic
Penny Royal, a 3-year-old filly by Curlin, is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Good Magic, who captured the 2017 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and the 2018 Haskell (G1) and ran second to Justify in the 2018 Kentucky Derby. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Penny Royal breaks from post 10 of 11 in a $120,000 maiden special going seven furlongs on the main track.
In the same race, Prides Crossing, a $1.3 million Quality Road filly purchased from the Keeneland 2022 September sale, makes her debut for trainer Paulo Lobo.
Monday, Churchill Downs race 9, half-sibling to G1 winner Forever Unbridled
D'Oro Lemon is a 4-year-old colt by Medaglia D'Oro out of the Kentucky Oaks winner Lemons Forever. He makes his first start at Churchill Downs going seven furlongs on dirt. Dallas Stewart trains for owner-breeder Charles Fipke. Forever Unbridled won the 2017 Breeders' Cup Distaff as well as the Personal Ensign (G1) and Beldame (G1).
