Prospect Watch: Filly out of Kentucky Oaks winner debuts

This week's Prospect Watch showcases young horses with elite bloodlines making their debuts and early career starts across major tracks. These selections have exceptional breeding credentials connecting to Grade 1 winners and champion dams.

Thursday

Believable headlines Thursday's action at Aqueduct race 2, the Tempted Stakes. This 2-year-old filly by Curlin earned her prospect status through her half-brother Tenfold, a Grade 2 winner who earned $1.29 million. She makes her stakes debut after winning her maiden by a nose at Belmont at Aqueduct on Sept. 28th, earning a 94 Horse Racing Nation speed figure. Todd Pletcher trains the homebred filly for Repole Stable, with Kendrick Carmouche taking the mount in the one-mile dirt stakes.

Red Velvet Cake returns for her second start at Aqueduct race 3 after finishing second by a nose in her debut on Sept. 18. The 3-year-old filly by Lord Nelson is out of Congarette and represents strong family credentials through her half-brother Federal Judge, a Grade 2 winner who earned $464,000. Trained by Melanie Giddings for Caperlane Farm, she earned a 96 HRN speed figure in that narrow defeat. Javier Castellano takes the mount for the 6 1/2-furlong dirt race.

Tideoftime makes her stakes debut at Aqueduct race 6, the Chelsey Flower after an impressive maiden victory. This 2-year-old filly by Mendelssohn is out of Grade 1 winner Time and Motion, who earned $968,000 during her racing career. She broke her maiden by three-quarters of a length at Laurel Park on Oct. 12, earning a 95 HRN speed figure. James Toner trains the homebred filly for Phillips Racing Partnership, with Jorge Ruiz aboard for the 1 1/16-mile turf stakes.

Friday

Silver Shot makes his racing debut Friday at Churchill Downs race 8. The 2-year-old colt by Gun Runner is out of Grade 1-placed mare Princesa Carolina and earned his prospect status through his half-sister Muhimma, a Grade 2 winner who earned $392,000. Bred by Three Chimneys Farm, he races for the partnership of Whisper Hill Farm, Three Chimneys Farm and Resolute Racing. Steve Asmussen trains with morning-line odds of 5-1, and Irad Ortiz Jr. takes the mount for the 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight on dirt.

Plum Perfect debuts Friday at Gulfstream Park race 4 with exceptional family credentials. This 4-year-old filly by American Pharoah is out of Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Plum Pretty, who earned $1.69 million and captured three graded-stakes victories. The homebred represents Whisper Hill Farm and trainer Kent Sweezey. Though she comes to racing later than most prospects, her champion breeding and connections make her debut noteworthy.

Saturday

A Moment a Love headlines Saturday's debuts at Aqueduct in race 5. This 2-year-old filly by Kantharos earned her prospect status through her half-brother World of Trouble, a Grade 1 winner who earned $1.26 million and captured multiple graded stakes. George Weaver trains for Daryl Stephen Clark, with Flavien Prat taking the mount for six furlongs on turf. The Kantharos connection adds intrigue as World of Trouble excelled as a turf sprinter.

Tap to Give makes her debut Saturday at Churchill Downs in race 8. The 2-year-old filly by Tapit is out of Grade 2 winner Rideforthecause, who earned $372,000 during her racing career. Daniel Leitch trains for KatieRich Stables, with Vincent Cheminaud aboard for the one-mile maiden special weight on turf. The Alpha Delta Stables-bred filly brings strong turf breeding credentials to her debut effort.

Sunday

Tatania caps the week's featured debuts Sunday in Churchill Downs race 6. This 3-year-old filly by Tapit brings the highest-profile dam connection of any prospect this week. She is out of Grade 1 winner Paulassilverlining, who earned $1.52 million and captured seven graded-stakes victories during her brilliant racing career. Chad Brown trains the Juddmonte homebred, with Tyler Gaffalione taking the mount for 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt. The combination of Tapit's proven success with such an accomplished dam creates significant expectations for this debut performance.

Second and third-time starters with Grade 1 connections

American Pearl returns for her second start Wednesday in Churchill Downs race 2 after finishing second in her debut. This 3-year-old filly by Gun Runner is out of Grade 1 winner Acqua Fresh and finished second, beaten 4 3/4 lengths, at Keeneland on Oct. 12 while earning a 106 HRN speed figure. William Walden trains for LNJ Foxwoods and Michael J. Snyder, with morning-line odds of 2-1 for the six-furlong dirt maiden special weight.

Carson Street makes his third career start Friday in Churchill Downs race 8 after showing promise in his most recent effort. This 2-year-old colt by Street Sense earned his prospect status through his half-sister Canoodling, a Grade 3 winner who earned $416,000. He finished second, beaten two lengths, in his last start at Churchill Downs on Sept. 28 while earning a 109 HRN speed figure. Brendan Walsh trains for Dawn and Ike Thrash, with Luis Saez aboard at morning-line odds of 7-2.

Drop Shot makes his third start Sunday in Churchill Downs race 10. This 2-year-old colt by Essential Quality is out of Grade 1 winner Centre Court, who earned $961,000 and captured six graded-stakes victories. His half-sister Navratilova won the Valley View (G3) and earned $277,000. He finished sixth, beaten 1 1/2 lengths, in his last start at Keeneland on Oct. 5 while earning a 79 HRN speed figure on turf. Rusty Arnold trains for BBN Racing, with Luis Saez taking the mount for the 1 1/16-mile turf race.
