Prospect Watch: Covfefe filly, Dorth Vader sister lead debuts

Prospect Watch looks through the week's entries to find young horses with the bloodlines to back up big expectations. This week's slate spans Saratoga, Del Mar, Colonial Downs and beyond, with a strong group of first-time starters carrying connections to Grade 1 winners and champion dams.

The headliner is Foxiest, a daughter of Gun Runner out of Grade 1 winner Covfefe, making her debut Saturday at Saratoga. Also debuting this week at the Spa is Revenge of the Sis, a Girvin filly with a Grade 1-winning full sister, and On Edge, a debut runner by champion sire Flightline out of a triple Grade 3-winning dam.

Thursday

Sudden Impact makes her debut Thursday in Del Mar race 2, a one-mile dirt maiden special weight. This 2-year-old filly by Not This Time is out of the Grade 3 winner Just Louise and is the younger half-sister of Forbidden Kingdom, a Grade 2 winner who has earned $684,000. Trainer Michael McCarthy has her set for Umberto Rispoli, and she is the 7-5 morning-line favorite in a five-horse field for owner Peter Leidel.

Friday

On Edge debuts Friday in Del Mar race 6, a five-furlong turf maiden special weight. This 2-year-old filly by champion sire Flightline is out of Edgeway, a three-time Grade 3 winner who earned $764,000 sprinting on the track. Joel Rosario has the mount for trainer John Sadler, and the filly is a homebred for co-owners Hronis Racing and Summer Wind Equine.

Revenge of the Sis debuts Friday in Saratoga race 5, a 1 1/16-mile turf maiden special weight. This 2-year-old filly by Girvin is a full sister to Dorth Vader, a Grade 1 winner who has earned over $1.08 million. John Velazquez takes the mount for trainer George Weaver, and the filly is a homebred for owners CJ Thoroughbreds and John Ropes. She breaks from post 12 in a 12-horse field at 3-1 on the morning line.

Saturday

Foxiest is the headliner of the week's debuts, entering Saturday in Saratoga race 6, a six-furlong dirt maiden special weight. This 2-year-old filly by Gun Runner is out of Covfefe, a three-time Grade 1 winner who earned $1.11 million during her career. The filly is a homebred for LNJ Foxwoods, who also campaigned her dam. Manuel Franco has the mount for trainer Brad Cox.

Saytara also debuts Saturday in that same race. This 2-year-old filly by Constitution is out of Zaajel, a two-time Grade 2 winner who earned $259,000 on the track. John Velazquez rides for trainer Todd Pletcher, and the filly is a homebred for Shadwell Stable, breaking from post six in the 10-horse field.

Second-time starters

Go for Launch returns for her second career start Wednesday in the Bolton Landing Stakes, carded as race 7 at Saratoga. It is a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint. This 2-year-old filly by Flightline is out of Starship Jubilee, a nine-time graded stakes winner who earned $2.09 million during her career — including the G1 Woodbine Mile vs boys. In her debut, Go For Launch won by three-quarters of a length on July 25 at Woodbine on turf at five furlongs, earning a 95 Horse Racing Nation speed figure. Trainer Kevin Attard sends her out at 6-1 on the morning line for owner-breeder Blue Heaven Farm, with Pietro Moran up.

Breaker makes her second career start Thursday in Saratoga race 5, a 5 1/2-furlong turf maiden special weight. This 2-year-old filly by Into Mischief is a half-sister to Simplification, a Grade 2 winner who earned $873,000. In her debut on July 24 at Saratoga, she finished fourth beaten five lengths on the turf, earning a 71 HRN speed figure. Flavien Prat retains the mount for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Repole Stable, going off at 9-2 in a 16-horse field.

Emancipate returns for his second start Saturday in Del Mar race 1, a six-furlong dirt maiden special weight. This 2-year-old colt by Uncle Mo is out of Marley's Freedom, a six-time Grade 1 winner who earned $1.23 million, and is a half-brother to Hope Road, a Grade 1 winner who has earned over $1.02 million. In his debut on Aug. 15 at Del Mar, he finished fourth beaten 5 3/4 lengths at 5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, earning a sharp 103 HRN speed figure despite the placing. Trainer Bob Baffert sends the Cicero Farms homebred out with Antonio Fresu aboard in a five-horse field.

Third-time starters

Glamorize makes her third career start Monday in Horseshoe Indianapolis race 5, a six-furlong dirt maiden special weight. This 3-year-old filly by Maxfield is a half-sister to Randomized, a Grade 1 winner who earned $1.76 million. In her most recent effort on July 28 at Horseshoe Indianapolis, she finished second beaten 1 3/4 lengths at six furlongs on dirt, earning an 85 HRN speed figure. Trainer Brad Cox sends her out at 5-1 for owners Resolute Racing and Mulberry Racing, with Marcelino Pedroza Jr. in the irons.

Elite makes her third career start off a 10-month layoff Thursday in Horseshoe Indianapolis race 6, a five-furlong turf maiden special weight. This 3-year-old filly by Into Mischief is a full sister to Authentic, the 2020 Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic winner who earned $7.20 million. Last seen on Oct. 5 at Keeneland, she finished eighth beaten 15 lengths at six furlongs on dirt, earning a 72 HRN speed figure. Trainer Wayne Mackey runs her at 30-1 for owner Peter Blum Thoroughbreds, with Joseph Bealmear aboard.

Leading Change takes the biggest step of any prospect this week, entering the Travers (G1) at Saratoga on Saturday in his third career start. He stretches out to 1 1/4 miles on the dirt and faces the best horses in his class. This 3-year-old colt by Gun Runner is a half-brother to Shedaresthedevil, an eight-time Grade 1 winner who earned $2.78 million. In his most recent start on July 11 at Horseshoe Indianapolis, he won the Indiana Derby (G3) by a neck at 1 1/16 miles on dirt, earning a 124 HRN speed figure. Trainer Brad Cox sends out the Wathnan Racing runner at 12-1 in a 10-horse field, with Manuel Franco up. He was bred by WinStar Farm.
