Prospect Watch: Midnight Bisou's 1st foal debuts

Horse Racing Nation’s Prospect Watch scans all upcoming entries for starters early in their careers who sold for more than $500,000 at their most recent auction or whose dams or siblings are graded-stakes winners.

There are so many notable youngsters in this week's report that it was hard to choose, but here are some of the notable horses of the 75 who met the report criteria.

Midnight Bisou's first foal debuts

Churchill Downs hosts its stars of tomorrow program on its fall opening day, and no horse is more befitting of that designation than Bisou, the 2-year-old first colt of multiple Grate 1 winner Midnight Bisou. Midnight Bisou famously ran second to Maximum Security in the inaugural Saudi Cup (G1) and just earlier this year was awarded the official win after five years of controversy. Bisou is sired by Hall of Famer Curlin. He is a homebred for Jeff Bloom, who also raced Midnight Bisou. Trainer Steve Asmussen had both sire and dam in his barn and gives son Erik Asmussen a leg up for this 1 1/16 mile-maiden special weight on dirt that closes out the card.

Friday

Belmont at Aqueduct race 6. Divine Rose, a half-sister to Ashland winner Leslie's Rose, debuts in this 1 1/16-mile turf event for trainer Cherie DeVaux. Divine Rose is sired by Good Magic and is out of the Galileo mare Wildwood Rose. John Gunther is the owner-breeder, and jockey Joel Rosario has the ride.

Keeneland race 4. Wiz the Bomb, a 2-year-old filly sired by Gormley, is entered in a six-furlong maiden claiming on dirt as an also-eligible for trainer Daniel Leitch. She is a half-sister to multiple graded-stakes winner Tiz the Bomb. Wizard Stables and Katierich Stables co-own, and Luan Machado has the ride if she draws in.

Keeneland race 6. Serendibite is a 2-year-old colt sired by Curlin out of the mare Solerina, making him a half-sibling to Concrete Rose. Concrete Rose won the Edgewood (G3), Belmont Oaks (G1) and Saratoga Oaks at 3 on turf. This colt is an also-eligible for this six-furlong dirt maiden for trainer Eric Reed. Wilbert Tan owns and jockey Rafael Bejarano has the ride.

Saturday

Laurel Park race 5. Somnium, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Caravel, debuts. Somnium is sired by Street Boss and is a homebred for owner-trainer Elizabeth Merryman, who also bred Caravel in Pennsylvania. This debut is a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint, the distance that Caravel excelled at, winning the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint in 2022.

Sunday

Churchill Downs race 11. Buzz Rocket, California Chrome's half-brother sired by Curlin, makes his second career start in the same race as Bisou. Bill Mott trains for Frank Fletcher Racing.

Monday

Horseshoe Indianapolis race 3. Pretty in Pearls, a full sister to Grade 1 winner Wicked Strong, debuts on turf going five furlongs. Trainer Eoin Harty conditions the 2-year-old filly for Casner Racing. Wicked Strong won the 2014 Wood Memorial (G1) and Jim Dandy (G2) for Centennial Farms. He recently retired from stud in Massachusetts.

Tuesday

Horseshoe Indianapolis race 1. Take a Look is a 2-year-old filly sired by Into Mischief out of 2017 Kentucky Oaks winner Abel Tasman. Abel Tasman has two older foals, both sired by Galileo, but they have not raced. Take a Look is trained by Brad Cox for Magnier, Smith and Tabor. She begins her career on dirt going one mile with jockey Marcelino Pedroza in the irons.
