Princesinha Julia leads Asmussen brigade in Remington's Trapeze

Four of the nine fillies entered for the $100,000 Trapeze Stakes are from the barn of leading trainer and National Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen; Princesinha Julia has been made the morning-line 8-5 favorite for the race.

Jockey Ricardo Santana, who ships in to ride for Asmussen at Remington Park on big days, will ride the favorite. This 2-year-old filly by Pioneerof the Nile, out of the A.P. Indy mare Love and Pride, has an unscathed record at Remington Park, going two-for-two with lesser company. She broke her maiden here after two poor efforts at Ellis Park and Churchill Downs. This is only the seventh running of the Trapeze and Asmussen has yet to get this trophy on his resume.

Since arriving in Oklahoma City, Princesinha Julia has broken her maiden on Oct. 10 and followed that with another win among allowance/optional claiming horses in for a tag of $75,000. She earned $39,996 in those two races alone and has $43,553 lifetime. That’s only good enough to be the third-highest earner in this field.

Princesinha Julia is owned by Three Chimneys Farm, LLC, in Midway, Ky., and was bred by the owner there.

The second favorite in the field is Trixie Racer for owner Speed Racing 2018, LLC, of Cibolo, Tex., and trainer Danny Pish. Trixie Racer has one thing over the chalk and that is that she is stakes-experienced. She is at 2-1 in the odds. This 2-year-old filly by Orb, out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Venetian Causeway, broke her maiden at Remington Park and then won the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial Stakes in her very next try here.

Pish then shipped her to Louisiana, where she was the runner-up, 5-1/4 lengths back of High On Gin in the $100,000 My Trusty Cat Stakes at Delta Downs, her first time over a sloppy track. That was at the mile distance, same as the Trapeze on Sunday. She was bred in Kentucky by Catherine Hudson. Trixie Racer gets regular rider Danny Sorenson for this.

The lifetime record for Trixie Racer is three starts, two wins, one second for $68,443 in her bankroll. That wallet puts her as the second highest earner in the field.

The top earner in the Trapeze field is Machos Vision, winner of the $75,000 Slide Show Stakes at Remington Park by 2-3/4 lengths on Nov. 15. She has pocketed $70,057 in three starts. Her win in the Slide Show was in wire-to-wire fashion at the mile distance with jockey Lori Keith up for trainer Michael Biehler. She went off 3-1 in that stakes, but is a generous 15-1 in the Trapeze morning line.

Third choice on the line is another from Asmussen’s barn, Caribbean Sea at 6-1. He trains this filly for owner WinStar Stablemates Racing, LLC, of Versailles, Ky. Ramon Vazquez will get a leg up for the third time on this filly. She was a winner last time out against maidens at Remington Park on Nov. 30 after fading to fourth in her debut Oct. 24 on a sloppy track.

Another filly that has drawn some buzz this meet is fourth choice on the line, Hunny Hush, who broke her maiden at first asking by 5-1/2 lengths. Jockey Luis Quinonez barely had to move in this filly’s race for trainer Joe Offolter. She is a daughter of 2011 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Caleb’s Posse, out of the Evansville Slew mare Kiss Me Chocolate. She was bred in Oklahoma by owner Gedda Quinonez. She could be a major factor in this race with morning-line odds of 8-1.
