Pretty Mischievous is scratched from Breeders' Cup Distaff
Pretty Mischievous was scratched from the Breeders' Cup Distaff because "she's not 100 percent," trainer Brendan Walsh told the Breeders' Cup media team Thursday.
He said the Into Mischief filly would fly back to Kentucky and is expected to return to racing next year.
“After traveling, she got a little bit colicky and we had to treat her the next day," Walsh said. "She’s looked great on the track, but that’s just her. She’s been a little dull and not showing us what she usually does. I’m not running in a championship race if she’s not 100 percent and, after the great season she’s given us, she owes us nothing.”
Pretty Mischievous, a Godolphin homebred, was 8-1 on the morning line for the Distaff. She won three consecutive Grade 1s this year, the Kentucky Oaks, Acorn and Test. Then in her most recent start in the Cotillion (G1), she made a late gain to finish second by a half-length to Ceiling Crusher.
The morning-line favorite for the Distaff is Idiomatic, 5-2, a 4-year-old Juddmonte homebred trained by Brad Cox. She has won seven of eight starts this year, including four straight graded stakes. Most recently, she won the Spinster (G1) by 4 1/2 lengths.
