Early betting in Nevada on Saturday’s running of Preakness 2023 suggests Mage will be shorter at post time than his 8-5 morning line.

The Kentucky Derby winner shortened Wednesday morning to 7-5 at Caesars Sportsbook and about the same price at Circa Sports, actually plus 145, in early fixed-odds wagering for the second race of the Triple Crown.

Lexington Stakes (G3) winner First Mission, who will race for only the fourth time in his career, was a consensus 5-2 in Las Vegas, the same odds he was given on the morning line.

National Treasure, the maiden winner who is trainer Bob Baffert’s first classic entry in two years, was 4-1 at Caesars and plus 425 at Circa, putting him in line with his 4-1 odds in Saturday’s Pimlico program.

Blazing Sevens, who has not won since the Champagne (G1) last fall at Belmont Park, carried value at Circa. At 8-1, actually plus 825, his odds were longer than his 6-1 at both Caesars and on the morning line.

Like the pari-mutuel wagers that most bettors will make this weekend, the fixed odds in Nevada are action only if a given horse starts in the Preakness, which is scheduled for Saturday at 7:01 p.m. EDT.

These were the odds Wednesday at 5:30 a.m. EDT at Caesars Sportsbook and Circa Sports in Nevada as well as Keith Feustle’s morning line at Pimlico for Preakness 2023:
