Preakness 2024 in Las Vegas: Fixed odds offer selective value
Nevada bookmakers looked like they were playing a game of seeing the morning line and raising it with some fixed-odds value for Preakness 2024.
Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, who was written into the program as an 8-5 favorite, was priced at more than 2-1 on Friday at 7 p.m. EDT at Circa Sports in Las Vegas. The exact plus-210 price means a winning $100 bet would net $210. Mystik Dan was 9-5 at the Westgate Superbook and plus 185 at Caesars Sportsbook.
In early pari-mutuel betting with only $457,027 in the win pool, Mystik Dan was showing at 3-1 on the boards at Pimlico.
Imagination, the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby runner-up who is racing for eight-time Preakness-winning trainer Bob Baffert, had a best price of 6-1 at the Westgate compared with his 3-1 morning line and 9-2 early odds at the track.
Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Catching Freedom, who closed to finish fourth in the Kentucky Derby, was plus 375 at Circa compared with 7-2 live odds at Pimlico that matched his morning line.
Tuscan Gold, trainer Chad Brown’s lightly raced colt who finished third in the Louisiana Derby, was plus 475 at Caesars and its William Hill Nevada outlets. He was 9-2 in the program and 7-2 in early pari-mutuel betting.
