Journalism is the 8-1 morning-line favorite for the Preakness 150 Future Wager announced Wednesday by the Maryland Jockey Club in conjunction with 1/ST Racing.

The wagering pool opens on Friday at noon EDT and will close on Saturday, May 3, at 6:00 p.m., about an hour before Kentucky Derby 2025 at Churchill Downs.

There are Kentucky Derby futures, too.

Trained by Michael McCarthy, Journalism is likely to be the favorite May 3 in Kentucky Derby 2025. The Curlin colt won his last four races, including the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 5.

Cornucopian (10-1), a $1.1 million yearling by Into Mischief trained by Bob Baffert, captured his career debut impressively at Oaklawn on Feb. 23 before finishing fourth as the odds-on favorite in the Arkansas Derby (G1) on March 29.

Baeza (12-1) finished second in the Santa Anita Derby, three-quarters of a length behind Journalism. Trained by John Shirreffs, Baeza looks like he will be among the also-eligibles for the Derby.

Pay Billy, who earned an automatic berth into the Preakness by winning Laurel Park’s Federico Tesio on April 19, is among the horses at 15-1. Trained by Michael Gorham for RKTN Racing, Pay Billy is a colt by Improbable.

There are 39 individual horses and an all-others mutuel field in the Preakness future win wager, which requires a $2 minimum bet and has 18% takeout. It is available at all participating advance-deposit wagering platforms.

The new MJC, which was created when the Maryland government took control of the state’s racing future from 1/ST, set a field of 40 betting choices  and program odds provided by Horse Racing Nation. The separate wagering pool involves win wagering for the Preakness at Pimlico on May 17.
