Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan has held firm as the 3-1 betting favorite for Saturday’s running of Preakness 2024.

Catching Freedom, the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby victor who finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby, has attracted wagering steam. He has flashed at times to 3-1 while holding mostly at 7-2 as the second choice.

Baffert returns to Pimlico, looks for 9th Preakness win.

Lightly raced Tuscan Gold, who was third to Catching Freedom in the Louisiana Derby, drifted to 4-1. He was the third choice just ahead of Santa Anita Derby (G1) runner-up Imagination, also at 4-1.

At 6:30 p.m. EDT the win pool had $11,233,240 in all-sources handle.

After the scratch Wednesday of Muth due to a fever, Mystik Dan replaced him as the morning-line favorite at 8-5. Santa Anita Derby (G1) runner-up Imagination was the 3-1 second choice on the revised line with Catching Freedom at 7-2 and Tuscan Gold at 9-2.

The Preakness is scheduled as the 13th of 14 races Saturday at Pimlico with the post time set for 7:01 p.m. EDT.

The will-pays for the double that includes Friday's Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan and the Preakness show more support for Tuscan Gold than any other horse in Saturday's classic.

For $2 tickets that had favored Gun Song winning Friday's first leg, Tuscan Gold will pay $30.00 if he were to win the Preakness. Catching Freedom is next at $30.60 followed by Imagination at $34.20, Mystik Dan at $35.20, Just Steel at $98.00, Seize the Grey at $114.40, Uncle Heavy at $204.60 and Mugatu at $708.40.
